Activities

Puerto Armuelles has a number of ways for you to see the real Panama and take full advantage of what has made this paradisiacal little land a prime destination for visitors from around the world.  Here are just a few things that you can arrange to fill your time with wonderful entertainment:

***
Blue Water Sports Fishing for Marlin and Sails in some of the world’s most amazing waters.  The Burica Peninsula’s fishing grounds have yielded many, many record-breaking catches.
***
In-shore fishing and snorkeling where tropical fishes and other marine life such as the endangered green sea turtle swirl around you.  Or, catch your dinner of Red Snapper or Grouper just off shore.
***

Take a whale-watching trip in the summer season and watch the giant beasts as they make their journey down the Pacific coast.

***
Visit an established Eco-Lodge and see local wildlife such as the white-faced Capuchin monkey, the tree sloth, parrots, iguanas and whale-watching in season.
***
Ride horses on the beach or go to an authentic Panamanian rodeo.  See the bullfight (actually only a bull-tease in Panama).
***

Take a drive up to the mountains for a cool day of mountain climbing, horse-back riding, bird-watching or just plain exploring.  Visit the trout farm and catch another dinner fresh from their well stocked ponds.

***
Take a zip-line tree trek in the Chiriqui Highlands or try white-water rafting or kayaking down your choice of several rivers.
***
Stoll the “malecon” where the town of Puerto Armuelles meets the sea and wander down the old banana pier.  Sink a line in the ocean with the locals there catching their dinner.  Cool off with a cerveza or two in one of the watering holes along the ocean road or sip some fresh fruit juice under an umbrella and watch the waves.
***
Spend a day shopping in Paso Canoas, at the border with Costa Rica.  Shop for bargain items, duty free spirits and simply absorb the bustle of this frontier town.
***
Tour a coffee plantation in the mountains and experience first-hand why Panama produces the world’s finest brew.
***
Explore the beaches on Punta Burica where yours will be the only footprints in the sand.  Listen to the parrots as they make their daily trek from Punta Burica to Puerto Armuelles.
***
Enjoy the locals.  More people speak English in Puerto Armuelles than in most other locales in Panama.  Why?  Because the banana company provided bi-lingual schools for all.
***

Most of all…absorb your quiet corner of the world.  Look out of your teak-slatted windows at Las Palmas Villas, watch as the pace of life slows and the worries and cares of modern life are eclipsed by the sounds of nature, the charm of by-gone days, and the simple pleasures of time well spent in the pursuit of happiness.
